marianna's pov
I took a big sip of my
diet coke and looked up at Forest who was now practically sitting
on the back counter, just watching me, waiting to get me a
refil.
i decided to make the moment less awkward.
"so, Forrest, what brings you to travel with the
Carnival?" i asked curiously.
"its a long story, so if i told you, you would be here all
night."
"you know that is just an exageration." i said in
between sips.
"so?" he said as he lifted his shoulders to a
shrug.
"well, you are the only person here that i could carry on a
meaningful conversation with." i told him as i looked around
at all the teens passed out around the barn.
"thats true."
i took a final sip of my diet coke and he got me another
refill.
"so, i come from a rich family." he started i knodded,
and mouthed i do too!
he smiled and continued on, "on late afternoon when i was
about 5, my mom was driving my brother and i back from the
park."
"oooo i loved the park when i was little!" he stopped
me there and returned to his story,
"on our way back we were in a hit and run. the car rammed
into us on our side of the lane and then sped away."
"omigosh! i remember that, my mom-" i held my tounge
when he silenced me.
"my mom died instantly in the crash. my brother and i were
in critical condition."
"oh... im so sorry to hear that."
"its fine. anyways. when my mom died, my dad didnt know what
to do, so he became very abusive. my brother and i were still
recovering from the wreck. i, miraculously, recovered completely,
while my brother had permanent brain damage. when we returned
home, we were beaten daily. i didnt know what to do until i was
8."
"you were beaten for 3 years? and your brother and his
mental ilness?"
"i know. i had to do something."
